Two pairs from Vice’s new footwear line: the Verve got a full golf weekend — indoor practice, about 40 driver swings, and 18 walking holes. The Fuse got seven straight days as my everyday shoe. Here’s how both held up.

Vice Golf sent me two pairs of shoes from their new footwear lineup, and I got to put them through a proper test this past weekend on the golf course and around town. The Verve came with me to an indoor practice session, through roughly 40 driver swings, nine simulated holes at Pebble Beach, and a full 18 walking on real grass the next day. The Fuse never saw a golf course instead it got seven straight days of office hours, errands, and my daily walks.

I didn’t go into this expecting much, and honestly I don’t know what Vice’s long-term plans are for shoes. But I came away impressed. Here’s the full breakdown.

Shoe No. 1 The Golf Shoe

Vice Verve (Off-White/Green)

Right out of the box

First off I put them right on and they were comfortable. That’s always the start. The next thing: they’re spikeless, so I wore them from the house to the car to the facility without thinking twice. I like a shoe I can wear off the course and not feel like I’m wearing spikes. This felt that way, and I loved it.

In the simulator

I’ll be honest: living in the Northeast, indoor golf becomes a bit of a necessity but hitting off mats is not something I always enjoy. The Verves honestly held up well here. I wasn’t sliding around on the mats, I was able to get good feel on my shots, and my feet felt comfortable.

Full honesty: I did slip on the first shot, but that was wetness plus brand-new shoes. That’s a minor thing with really any spikeless shoe that has a bit of a harder sole the dampness from the rain made things a little slippery, but I never felt like I was on ice skates.

40 driver swings, nine at Pebble, then dinner

After about 40 swings with my driver I need more distance this upcoming year; straight and 230 is fine, but I’m slowly building up power (more on that in the upcoming weeks) I played Pebble Beach for nine holes and had some fun.

The shoes were so comfortable in the simulator that I wore them right to dinner with my daughter. I walked out the door in them, picked her up, and to be honest I forgot I had them on. The Verves are great looking but not 100% my usual style of shoe and then, to my surprise:

“Dad, nice kicks.”— My 21-year-old daughter. That never happens. Normally it’s “Dad, you can’t wear that out.”

I’m taking it as a compliment.

On real grass: 18 holes, walking

The next day I wanted to test these on grass, even with the course still damp from the rain. They didn’t disappoint. I walk most of my rounds, and comfortable shoes are tops on the list these met the mark for walking with no issues at all. Total comfort. I think they’ll enter the rotation for rounds I walk.

The honest caveat: grip over the ball

Over the ball I did have a few moments where I slipped in the Verves. They have some grip, but probably not as much as I’m used to and again, they were basically brand new and it was damp. If you’re coming from spiked shoes, that’s the trade-off you accept for the casual look.

After 18 holes and another 84

The round: 18 holes, a darn 84 again solid tee to green, some bone-headed putts. The shoes held up, and I never felt like I had to rip them off after walking 18. Best part: with a wipe of a wet towel, they looked brand new.

What I liked

  • Comfortable right out of the box
  • True spikeless versatility — house, car, course, dinner
  • Walked 18 with zero hot spots
  • Cleans up like new with a wet towel
  • Passed the daughter test

What to know

  • Grip in damp conditions is a step behind spiked shoes
  • First shot on a wet mat felt slick
  • Style isn’t for everyone (my daughter disagrees)
  • Runs small — Vice suggests up to a full size up

Bottom line Verve

If you like a casual shoe look to play golf in, you can’t go wrong. You could even wear these off the course and get a good feel. I’m going to keep wearing them.

Shoe No. 2 The Everyday Shoe

Vice Fuse (Lime Drip)

The week-long test

Vice sent along a second pair the Fuse in Lime Drip. These I didn’t wear to golf in. I wore them around for an entire week instead. I like to walk about 3.5 miles a day on the treadmill and outside, so these felt like a good test as an everyday shoe. Could you golf in them? Sure but they don’t have much of a spike to them, and I like to feel that ground connection.

Sizing pay attention here

I wear a size 11 and they sent me an 11.5 fit perfectly. So take note. (Vice’s own sizing note on the Fuse says it runs small and recommends a full size up believe it.)

Day one and the daily grind

Day one was mainly around the office and running errands, plus my daily walk: a mile on the treadmill, then 2.5 outside mostly on pavement with a bit of dirt trail. Love them. Very comfortable. I truly enjoyed the fit and comfort. My everyday shoes are usually Adidas or Municipal, and the Vice Fuse held up nicely.

Six more days straight

For the next six days I wore these exclusively other than on the golf course. Now, I’m not normally a “sock fit” shoe guy, but after the first day I was completely used to it. Still not my favorite style, but they’re breathable, and that worked out well.

The rain test

With all the rainy days we had, they were water-repellent as advertised. Full disclosure: I got caught in a deluge, and even if I’d had boots on my feet would have been soaked. The Vice Fuse did soak through but they dried out fast and didn’t look worse for the wear the next day.

What I liked

  • Very comfortable, all day, every day
  • Breathable sock-fit knit
  • Water-repellent as advertised
  • Dried out fast after a full soaking
  • Style looks great, fit was perfect

What to know

  • Soaked through in a true deluge (dried fast, though)
  • Not enough spike for my on-course ground feel
  • Sizing runs small — order up

Bottom line Fuse

A solid shoe for running and walking. VERY comfortable. Pay attention to sizing — I’m glad I had a half size up. No complaints. I even have them on right now.

Final Verdict

High Marks From Me

I was impressed with the Vice shoe experience. I didn’t go into it thinking much, and I don’t know what their plans are for the future in shoes. But both pairs get high marks from me: the Verve as a casual golf shoe, and the Fuse as what I’d call a running shoe.

The Verve stays in my rotation for the rounds I walk. The Fuse stays on my feet. I’ll post an update on the Fuse after a month or so of wear and more on my driver distance-building project in the next few weeks.
