Move to four days of competition reflects LIV Golf’s global momentum and evolution to deliver more action and entertainment for fans
New York , NY. – LIV Golf, the first truly global golf league, today announced that beginning in 2026, all events will be played over 72 holes, marking the next chapter of LIV Golf’s mission to grow and celebrate the sport for a new era of players and fans around the world.
Since its inception, LIV Golf events have featured a three-day 54-hole competition, playing the majority of events from Friday through Sunday. In 2026, all events will be played over four days, generally beginning on Thursday of event weeks (Wednesday, February 4 for LIV Golf Riyadh presented by ROSHN). The same high-energy, team and individual competition format remains core to the League’s DNA, along with the world-class event experiences that are central to LIV Golf’s impact on and off the course.

We’re seeing upward momentum and traction from Hong Kong to Adelaide to Indianapolis, and that heightened interest opens the door to add another day of golf while benefiting our fans, players, marketing partners, and our global media partners,” said Scott O’Neil, LIV Golf CEO. “The most successful leagues around the world – IPL, EPL, NBA, MLB, NFL – continue to innovate and evolve their product, and as an emerging league, we are no different. For each regular season event, the individual competition will be decided over 72 holes of stroke play, while the team competition will continue to run concurrently, with each team’s cumulative individual stroke play scores determining the team’s result. Central to LIV Golf’s identity and offering, the shotgun starts remain, ensuring the condensed, faster-paced event experience embraced by players and fans. The format for the season-ending Team Championship will be announced at a later date.

Thursday will deliver the same fan experience which has become synonymous to LIV Golf events: a world-class presentation of golf, entertainment, and culture. Music, family-friendly fan zones, and local food and beverage offerings will be present throughout each day. Live concerts remain central to LIV Golf’s DNA and select events will feature additional live performances on Thursdays. In addition, fans can continue to expect premium hospitality offerings and experiences like the iconic “Party Hole” which have delivered some of the League’s most memorable moments.
The evolution to four rounds not only deepens the drama and storylines that fuel team competition and help build fan communities, it reflects commercial momentum and global demand.
The League’s 2025 season delivered record-breaking results with fan attendance, partnership revenue, and television audience. LIV Golf’s global audience experienced new highs with nearly 90% year-over-year growth since the addition of its partnership with FOX Sports this January, which lifted live viewership in the U.S. alongside global broadcast reach that now approaches 900 million households across more than 200 countries.
In 2026, LIV Golf’s global schedule expands to 10 countries across five continents, with 11 of the League’s 14 events already announced. With events already staged in the Middle East, Europe, Australasia, and North America – and now extending to Africa – the League continues to deliver on its mission to bring elite competition and world-class fan experiences to audiences around the globe.
