KALAUAO, O‘AHU –  Pearl at Kalauao’s newly renovated layout proved to be a challenge today for a competitive Division I field on O‘ahu. Darkness halted play before all competitors could complete 36 holes, but as the sun set over Pearl Harbor, team Nevada held the lead at 9-under par, three strokes ahead of UC San Diego at 6-under, with West Virginia University (WVU) close behind at 5-under.

The Nevada Wolf Pack continued their strong start to the fall 2025 season, following two consecutive fourth-place finishes. Under Head Coach Trake Carpenter, now in his fourth season at the helm, the Wolf Pack will look to maintain their momentum heading into tomorrow’s final round at Pearl.

Nevada’s Ben Ortwein made an eagle on the par-5 first hole to open his second round, matching teammate Jonathan Kim’s eagle on the par-5 fifth. Ortwein sits T2 alongside UC San Diego’s Nathan Tseng at 5-under. A senior, Ortwein’s best collegiate finish came at the 2025 Mountain West Championship, where he placed 23rd.

Nevada teammate Supakit “Oak” Seelanagae, who led after the first round with a 5-under-par 67, faced tougher conditions in round two and is now T5 with California Baptist’s Kurtis Rodriguez, Augusta’s Stefan Jacobs, and Army West Point’s Tyson Sparks.

For the individuals, Eastern Michigan’s Charlie Box surged in his second round, firing 5-under through 15 holes when play was suspended. Box carded two eagles — one on the par-5 17th during round one and another on the par-5 first today. The junior from Leicester, England, is competing in his first season with EMU after two successful years at Hutchinson Community College, where he was the 2025 NJCAA Division I National Champion and ranked No. 2 nationally with a 69.2 stroke average. Box was also named Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week on October 3, 2025.

Other notables:

  • Nathan Tseng (UC San Diego) recently placed 13th at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational and is aiming for his first top-10 finish of the season.
  • Kaleb Wilson (West Virginia) sits alone in 4th at 4-under par, highlighted by five birdies in his second round (with three holes remaining).
  • Tyson Sparks (Army West Point) posted a career-low 67 (-5); Sparks was the No. 1-ranked junior in Wisconsin (Class of 2024).
  • Supakit “Oak” Seelanagae (Nevada), a senior from Thailand and former member of the Thai National Golf Team, opened with a 5-under-par 67 in round one.

A total of 22 players completed their second round before darkness set in. The remaining field will resume play at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start, followed by the third and final round beginning at 8:30 a.m.
