Charlie Woods Shoots 86 In Pga Tour Event Pre-qualifier

Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of Tiger, saw his hopes of playing in the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic end with a 16-over-par 86 at a pre-qualifying event.

Woods was competing at Lost Lake Golf Club in Florida hoping to reach his first PGA Tour event. There were 25 spots up for grabs from four pre-qualifying tournaments with a final qualifier taking place on Monday from which the top four gain a place in the $9m Cognizant Classic, which is being held next week at the PGA National Resort’s Champions Course.

Playing in front of a group of around 50 fans, which is large for such an event, Woods Jnr made 11 pars on his round, but four bogeys, two double bogeys and a costly 12 on the par-four seventh hole saw him finish down the field. The best score on the day was a five-under 65.

The pre-qualifier cost $250 to enter for players with no tour status.

The Cognizant Classic, which was won last year by Chris Kirk, begins next Thursday [February 29] with the field including Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry and Matt Fitzpatrick.
