Range Friday, 18 holes Saturday, and an Eagles Sunday — five pieces from Aureus

This past weekend I got to test out some of the new Aureus products on the golf course and the range. Aureus builds vintage-looking golf apparel out of modern performance fabrics polos and hats that look like they came out of a 1970s pro shop but are made in the USA from real technical materials.
Over three days I wore five pieces: two polos on the course, two hats at the range, and one more polo at a family Eagles watch party. Here’s how it went, product by product.

1. The Yellow Aureus Shirt — Range DayHigh Marks

First up, the Yellow Aureus Shirt. I pulled into the club at 9am on Friday with this on to hit some balls and got a few looks, not going to lie here… which was expected.
Performance: the shirt is comfortable, a solid fit for my 51-year-old body (tiny beer gut, which I am working on). It was very easy to swing in and didn’t get bunched up at all.
Material: great, and it felt a bit different than some of the shirts I’ve been wearing but it is exactly as described: a lightweight performance jersey with all the attributes of a performance fabric and the soft handfeel and breathability of cotton.
What Aureus says: an Augusta-inspired polo built on the Core Polo in a lighter-weight version of their super-soft original poly blend, with an exaggerated structured collar, elongated placket, and a functional right-chest pocket “true to the proper placement for a right-handed golfer (sorry lefties!).” Proudly made in the U.S.A.
Here was the part I didn’t expect: a gentleman in his 70s walked over and said, “Where did you get that?” He thought it was an old shirt. We had a great chat about golf and life and about the shirt — he shared a few memories of seeing them all over the place back in the day.
High marks for this one. Be prepared to stand out.
2. The Performance Polo — Saturday Round My Favorite

This one I wore during my Saturday game at the club — 18 holes. It was interesting to hear the response from my normal crew and friends. My old friend Joe said:
“Dude, did you pull that out of the archives?”
It’s still warm in the Philadelphia area, so I had a quarter-zip on for the first four holes in the morning chill but I unleashed the shirt after a birdie on 4 and then ripped a drive on 5. Which was fun.
At the bar after the round, everyone talked about the familiarity of the brand, and some of the younger guys asked me where I got it. That made me feel good I’m a writer, barely a golfer and definitely not a model.
Before you wonder: I shot an 84. Left a few putts out there, but 84 is good as an 11 handicap. The shirt was great and wore well during my swing, and the conversation was fun as we talked about ’70s and ’80s PGA pros.
What Aureus says: crafted from Chito Interlock, an eco-friendly fabric made by spinning recycled PET with chitosan fibers derived from crab and shrimp shells. Natural odor resistance, UPF 50+, wicking, and articulated seam lines that follow your swing for unrestricted motion.
3. The Bucket Hat — Range Day OnlyZero Issues

Other than the beach, I am not a bucket-hat guy. But we review stuff here at Golf Problems, and that’s part of the job.
I will be honest: I’m not showing up for my regular match with this hat the guys would have a field day with me. So I wore it on range day. First off, very comfortable. I did get a “Nice hat, Spaulding” from Matt in the pro shop. Great guy… smart-ass kid though. At least he has seen Caddyshack. Hope for the future generation of golf.
This isn’t something I would wear regularly I’m always honest in reviews. But if this is your style, I had zero issues with it, and it’s a conversation piece as well. It will definitely make its way into my beach and pool hat rotation.
What Aureus says: a clean, unstructured silhouette with a classic fit lightweight and breathable, “the perfect finishing touch for sunny rounds and post-game hangs.”
4. The Patrons Redux HatSolid — Not My Style

Now onto the other hat. Also not my style, but I wore it for part of the range session and part of my golf match. Here’s the thing: if you are into this style, the hat is great. If not, it might not be for you. It’s exactly as advertised ’80s style.
Nothing wrong with the hat at all, and the description is accurate, but it just didn’t work for me. I am very particular about what hats I wear, and this is more personal preference than anything. Solid construction and exactly as advertised.
What Aureus says: a re-interpretation of Aureus hats from the 1980s — a clean, structured silhouette in matte nylon with an elastic holder on the brim for your tee, pencil, or whatever else fits.
5. The Core Polo — Sunday Eagles AttireWorth Its Weight in Gold

This shirt reminds me of the ’80s. Let me explain: growing up, my grandfather wore this exact style shirt what seemed like every day.
So I thought it would be fun to wear it to a small family get-together for the Eagles/Titans game this past Sunday and I wasn’t wrong. My most senior family member said immediately, “Did you raid Pop’s closet when he died?” but in a loving way and then asked where I got it. After I said “No,” we had a conversation that lasted about 15 minutes, talking about Pop and his golfing and other things. That part was worth its weight in gold. Lots of smiles, as he loved the Philadelphia Eagles and loved his golf.
The shirt is also exactly as advertised. It fit well and was comfortable all day long. I will say the fabric felt a bit thin, but in keeping with the style it was perfect.
What Aureus says: the Core Polo reimagines the classic golf shirt with an exaggerated collar, elongated placket, and a clean chest pocket a slightly relaxed, vintage-athletic silhouette in premium performance fabric, made in the USA.
Verdict
All the Aureus products were top notch, and the construction is great across the board. My personal favorites are the Yellow Aureus Shirt and the Performance Polo those two I will wear on the course again, and the Performance Polo was very comfortable to swing in. The hats are solid products but not my exact style; there is absolutely nothing wrong with them.
What I loved was the conversation starter the brand was. It was fun on the course even the friendly jokes were all inquisitive. The family piece was icing on the cake and heart-warming, especially since the Eagles won. Now I have to wear it again as a good-luck piece.
One more positive: I washed all the polos as directed on the site, and they came out looking new.
Bottom line: if Aureus is going for that feeling walking into the club and having three different people ask where you got it, then staying to talk they nailed it. Retro on the outside, real performance fabric on the inside.
