The 3 Best Golf Tees for Seniors [2023 Edition]

For many years, I used whatever golf tee I could find. If there was one lying around on a tee box, chances are I would pick it up and use it.

Over time, I started realizing that the tees I used had a much greater impact on where the golf ball went. Playing with certain tees can change the way the ball feels coming off the clubface, and many believe the right tee will also get you considerably more yardage off the tee.

Let’s take a look at 3 of the best golf tees for seniors. After all, senior golfers will rarely complain about a few more yards being added to their drives.

The Top 3 Golf Tees for Seniors

Pride Professional Tee System Pro Length Plus Tee

Top pick

Pride Professional Tee System

Pros

  • Used on the PGA Tour by many golfers
  • Made of 100% Hardwood
  • Helps golfers understand proper tee length

Cons

  • Hardwood is not the most lightweight material on the market

The Pride Professional Tee System Pro Length Plus Tee is our favorite option for a senior golfer that is looking for an on-course tee solution. The Pride Professional has been a top golf tee on the PGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour for many years.

One of the first things that stands out about the Pride Professional is the fact that it has a color line system to help players tee the ball up to the proper height. Although you can buy these in many different lengths, I usually end up purchasing the longer 3 ¼ inch tees and then just push them down further when necessary.

If you have a larger 460cc driver, the Pride Professional will help ensure that the golf ball is lined up precisely with the center of the driver’s head. This alignment increases the overall power and the amount of distance a golfer can get from the club head.

Maxfli Performance Series Low Resistance Tees

Maxfli Performance Series Low Resistance

Pros

  • Easy to tee up
  • Plastic design lasts for many swings
  • Easy to see with high visibility
  • Low friction design

Cons

  • Not as great for the environment as the wood tees

The Maxfli Performance Series Low Resistance Tees are great because they will help produce less drag at impact.

Most senior golfers struggle with a loss of power, and this is an unfortunate reality of getting older. Luckily the Maxfli Performance Series Low Resistance Tees can help ensure that you get maximum distance at impact.

I really like the high-visibility colors that Maxfli offers, the tees are easy to find, and you will end up having to purchase fewer of them. The mixed pack is also a nice feature, as you can get tees of several different sizes in one box.

Lastly, the 4 prong design helps to ensure that the ball will sit on a tee properly, with very little friction between the tee and the ball. If you are a senior player that struggles with stability when bending over to tee one up, these Maxfli Performance Series do quite well.

Green Keepers 4 Yards More Tee

Green Keepers 4 Yards More Golf Tee

Pros

  • Durable tee for senior golfers
  • It should last for about 100 drives
  • Very popular with impressive reviews
  • It can help slower swing speed players gain some extra yardage

Cons

  • Some players won’t notice an increase in the current driving distance if they are already playing a low-resistance tee

Anything that claims to give me four more yards is undoubtedly a winner in my book. The Green Keepers tees are some of the most widely sold tees in the world of golf. They have a flexible six-prong tip that almost seems as though it’s holding the ball in thin air.

If you ever felt like impact was a tee was heavy or more work, the Green Keepers makes it feel more lightweight with lower resistance.

Another thing I was impressed with when playing with the Green Keepers 4 Yards More Tee was the durability. I was worried that the tops of the tee would start to lay flat and not hold the ball up properly, but that wasn’t the case.

The tees are built to last for over 100 drives. Considering you will only need it on about 14 of the holes, a pack of Green Keepers could get you through quite a few rounds of golf.

What Makes Certain Golf Tees Better Suited for Seniors?

A golf tee that is best suited for seniors has a few specific characteristics. These will include less resistance or friction at impact, proper height for modern drivers, and even some help with consistency in the tee height of the golf ball.

Tee Length

Golf drivers continue to remain large in size. The USGA set the maximum at 460cc, and most manufacturers still make clubs that will reach that maximum. With a 460cc driver, you have to tee the ball up several inches above the ground.

Without this extra height, the ability to get the ball to hit the center of the driver is significantly compromised.

Tee it high and let it fly is a real thing in the world of golf and one that senior golfers should take note of. Gone are the days of teeing it low and trying to hit a line drive. This just doesn’t work.

Resistance

Resistance is something that many golfers complain of at impact. When you work so hard to gain speed in your backswing, you will want to ensure that all of that speed transfers to the ball at impact.

When a tee is very heavy or larger, it can create added resistance that is not necessary.

You may have seen some of these more oversized wooden step tees that are used to help golfers with tee height. As helpful as the consistency in tee height can be, these tees are heavy and bulky, making it hard for slower swing speed players to maximize distance.

As a senior, try to think of lightweight, higher, and less restricted performance from the tees you use.

Consistency in Tee Height

Golf is a very precise game. As great as the advancements in equipment have been, we all still need to contact the center of the clubface at some point. Consistency in tee height will allow you to make this center contact and get better results on the course.

I like the tees that have some kind of line, mark, or indicator that lets golfers know how high they should be teeing the ball. You may have to put in a bit of time to figure out which tee height is best for you.

However, once you get it down, it pays to stick with this consistent height each time you play. This goes for drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, and even your irons.

Many high handicaps new to the game have no idea that an iron shot and a fairway wood or driver should be teed at different heights. If you struggle with this, something like the Pride Professional Tee System is a good solution.
