3 Tips To Unlock More Exit Velocity

Jeremy Nowak has spent 6 years as a pro ballplayer, 13 years as a hitting instructor, and even competed as a professional World Long Drive competitor in golf. With a career built on speed and power, Jeremy knows what it takes to train the body to move faster.

In this edition, he shares three proven tips for boosting exit velocity at the plate:

Tip 1: Train for Peak Speeds

  • Just like pitchers long toss to build velocity, hitters need sessions focused only on speed.

  • Twice a week, get loose, grab a tee and reliable radar tool, and swing all-out for sets of 5–7.

  • Track your progress and push your body to move faster.

  • Don’t worry about mechanics here—just be an athlete in the box.

Tip 2: Prime Your Central Nervous System

  • Ditch the heavy on-deck bat tricks.

  • Use a lighter object (like the Aerobat) and swing it as fast as possible before hitting.

  • Light swings “wake up” your nervous system, giving you instant exit velo gains of 2–5 MPH.

  • Add 3 quick light swings between tee rounds to keep the body primed.

Tip 3: Warm Up Like a Pro

  • Foam roll, stretch, and mobilize before touching the tee.

  • A proper warm-up ensures your first swings are already high-quality—above 90 MPH, not 60.

  • Don’t waste early reps. Start loose, athletic, and ready to move.

Takeaway

Exit velocity doesn’t come from grinding mechanics alone—it comes from training speed, priming the body, and warming up with intent. Treat bat speed like a workout, and the gains will show up in-game.
