A thrilling 2026 golf season has reached the final day of its final major with The Open Championship continuing its 154th playing into Sunday at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England. The oldest golf tournament in the world returned to Birkdale for the first time in nine years with the Claret Jug set to be awarded on site for the 11th time.

Sam Burns takes a two-shot lead after 54 holes as the top 10 of The Open leaderboard is comprised almost entirely of golfers without a major championship to their name. The lone exception is Bryson DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open winner who has — for better and worse — been the story of the tournament to this point. DeChambeau was assessed a two-stroke penalty on Friday that made headlines, in part because of an initial reluctance to play the weekend at Royal Birkdale.

DeChambeau ultimately decided to play, though he was unable to make a notable trek up the leaderboard on Moving Day. Instead, it was Burns who turned in the lowest consecutive rounds in men’s major championship history, scoring a 127 from Rounds 2-3. There have already been three 62s, matching the lowest single-round score in men’s major history, which proves that Royal Birkdale is gettable and nearly anyone can surge in the final round. That includes Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Åberg, Jon Rahm, Hideki Matsuyama, Xander Schauffele and defending champion Scottie Scheffler, who are all among the top 11 on the leaderboard.
