Peters family claim fifth Mothers & Daughters’ title

Defending champions Ann and Alex Peters from Shifnal Golf Club in Shropshire retained the Mothers and Daughters’ title with a one-shot victory at Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club in south-west London earlier this month to win the historic event for a fifth time.

“Winning was a real thrill and really meant a lot to me because Alex is getting married next month and so we won’t be able to compete as Mrs and Miss Peters ever again!” said Ann, who in addition to last year had previously won the event with her daughter in 2010, 2011, 2012.

Alex, a former Ladies European Tour player who returned to amateur status three years ago, played off a +3 handicap, while her mother was off a 6 handicap over a composite course featuring holes from both the traditional Pam Barton course and the longer JH Taylor course.

“It made it more difficult this year, but given the recent wet weather the course was just amazing and the fairways were in great shape, with medium paced greens that challenged us right up to the end. It’s a lovely event and one of my favourite weekends of the year,” said Ann.

Held at the Richmond venue for the more than half a century, the 27-hole medal foursomes event is open to female pairings from across the UK and remains one of the country’s longest-running events for women golfers, having been first played in 1932.

Runners up in another full field for the popular event were Karen and Madelene Kuhler from Walton Heath, while Eliza Jarvis from Hindhead won the Meg Kent Trophy for U16 players.
