One shocker from Nejad: The expert is fading Scottie Scheffler, even though he’s the No. 1 player in the world. The expert knows the world’s top-ranked golfer has been racking up strong finishes all season, but he has concerns about Scheffler’s putter. Scheffler has five straight top-five finishes, but his performance on the greens has kept him from winning. His last victory was at the Players Championship in March, and the 26-year-old ranks 146th in strokes gained putting. He has lost 13 strokes on the greens over his past two events, though both were top-three finishes. “I just can’t bet him at such a small number,” Nejad told SportsLine.
On the other hand, Nejad sees value in Patrick Cantlay as he tries to put past major disappointments behind him. Cantlay hasn’t broken through in a major, but he has seven top-10 finishes this season and is fifth on tour in scoring average (69.57). His performance off the tee will be an advantage at LACC, as he leads the tour in total driving (12th in accuracy, 26th in distance).
