Sahith Theegala is still in search of his first career PGA Tour win, but one year ago, he nearly found it at the Travelers Championship. He finished T-2 with J.T. Poston, and a return to TPC River Highlands could be just what he needs after finishing T-23 or worse in each of his last six starts. Despite his strong showing last year, he’s a 55-1 longshot according to the latest 2023 Travelers Championship odds on Caesars Sportsbook.
Theegala has recorded seven top-10 finishes this season, and he ranks sixth in putting average (1.70) and 14th in putts per round (28.05). He’ll need to keep it up to outplay 2023 Travelers Championship contenders like Jon Rahm (10-1), Rory McIlroy (10-1), Patrick Cantlay (9-1) and Scottie Scheffler (6-1). Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.
In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, even though he hadn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2018.

Top 2023 Travelers Championship predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the Travelers Championship 2023: Cantlay, an eight-time PGA Tour champion and one of the favorites, stumbles this week and doesn’t even crack the top five. He has yet to record a win this season, despite making the cut in 14 of 15 tournaments that he has played in.
Cantlay has only posted one top-10 finish in his last four events, and he has not been in the top five since April. He ranks outside the top 30 on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approach the green (0.483) and scrambling (63.35%), which has made it difficult for him to keep pace with some of the top golfers in the world. Cantlay is being priced as an elite golfer, making him an overvalued option to stay away from this week.
Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, a 28-1 longshot makes a strong run at the title. The two-time major winner has been on a rough run recently, but that’s what makes him a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Morikawa hasn’t made an appearance at the Travelers since he missed the cut in 2020, and he finished tied for 36th the previous year.
He withdrew from the Memorial Tournament with back spasms, but came back with a top-15 finish at the U.S. Open. Even though top results have escaped him in the second half of the season, he has been remarkably consistent with his approach play.
