2023 Travelers Championship odds, picks, field: PGA predictions, bets from golf model that nailed 9 majors

The 2023 Travelers Championship is the final event elevated to designated status this PGA Tour season as a way to get the best players in the world competing on a more consistent basis. It’s one week after the 2023 U.S. Open and if recent history holds true, one of the golfers who competed last week will win again this weekend. Xander Schauffele won last year’s Travelers Championship, which marked the seventh straight year the winner also played in the U.S. Open the week before, and the 2023 Travelers Championship tees off at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. on Thursday.

Scottie Scheffler, who finished second at the U.S. Open in his five straight top-five finish, is the 6-1 favorite to win the 2023 Travelers Championship odds from Caesars Sportsbook. He’s followed by Patrick Cantlay (9-1) and Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy, both at 10-1 odds. Schauffele has 12-1 odds to be the first back-to-back Travelers Championship winner since Phil Mickelson in 2001 and 2002. Before locking in your 2023 Travelers Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, even though he hadn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2018.

This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 Travelers Championship field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2023 Travelers Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Travelers Championship 2023: Cantlay, an eight-time PGA Tour champion and one of the favorites, stumbles this week and doesn’t even crack the top five. He has yet to record a win this season, despite making the cut in 14 of 15 tournaments that he has played in.

Cantlay has only posted one top-10 finish in his last four events, and he has not been in the top five since April. He ranks outside the top 30 on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approach the green (0.483) and scrambling (63.35%), which has made it difficult for him to keep pace with some of the top golfers in the world. Cantlay is being priced as an elite golfer, making him an overvalued option to stay away from this week.

Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, a 28-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Morikawa finished tied for 14th at the U.S. Open after needing to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament on Sunday with a  under due to back spasms on June 4.

Morikawa had a rough stretch after finishing tied for 10th at the Masters, finishing outside the top 25 and missing two cuts in five tournaments before the Memorial Tournament. But he’s played better golf since, in large part due to his iron play. The 26-year-old ranks second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: Approach the Green. He ranks 13th in total strokes gained, including fifth in tee to green. Putting has hindered Morikawa but if he can sink a few timely putts this weekend, 28-1 odds look to provide strong value for Morikawa. See who else to pick here.

How to make 2023 Travelers Championship picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with Travelers Championship 2023 odds of 20-1 or longer who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model’s Travelers Championship picks here.

So, who will win the Travelers Championship 2023, and which longshots will stun the golfing world? Check out the 2023 Travelers Championship odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected 2023 Travelers Championship leaderboard, all from the model that’s nailed nine golf majors, including this year’s Masters.
