How the World No. 1 Gets Golf-Ready for the Rigors of Tournament Play

Being the world’s best golfer doesn’t happen by accident; it’s the result of relentless preparation. During the off-season, World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler relies on regular workouts using GolfForever to maintain his consistency and build a body that is strong, flexible, and perfectly balanced.

Scheffler is famous for his unorthodox footwork during his golf swing that requires elite levels of stability. Because of this, his movement work places a heavy emphasis on lower-body strength, balance and mobility. Average golfers can learn a lot from his approach. Rather than focusing on a single motion, Scheffler utilizes a dynamic program, including elements that train balance, to ensure his body moves the way it needs.

“Balance is something that’s very quick to improve with GolfForever members,” says Jon Levy, SVP of Brand and Communications. “Basic movements, like standing on one foot while turning your head side-to-side, can improve your body’s spatial awareness. In our program, we extrapolate that with dynamic, asymmetrical movements. This might mean holding a balanced position during a rotational pattern or shifting weight from one leg to the other, mimicking the back-and-forth nature of a golf swing.”

If you’ve watched Scheffler play, you know the movement of his trail foot during the follow-through is the hallmark of his uniqueness. He’s remarked that his focus often lies in avoiding his right hip getting too “high” in the backswing, which could lead to a reverse pivot. To prevent this, Scheffler prioritizes hip mobility and the ability to load properly.

”He’s constantly working to ensure his lower body has the strength, mobility and freedom of movement required for his swing,” Levy explains. By performing these fundamental routines daily, pros like Scheffler ensure their bodies feel exactly the same every time they step onto the first tee. This devotion to consistency doesn’t just improve performance, it’s a vital shield against injury.

In 2021, Scheffler faced a specific challenge: he was starting tournaments strong but fading by the weekend. To bridge the gap, he worked with his longtime trainer, GolfForever Director of Performance Dr. Troy Van Biezen, to build endurance using the GolfForever Swing Trainer and key tenets of the GolfForever program.

The system integrates:

  • Rotational power to maintain speed throughout four rounds.
  • Core activation to protect the spine and stabilize the swing.
  • Dynamic full-body exercises to reduce fatigue and conserve energy.

By targeting golf-specific muscles and improving functional efficiency, Scheffler ensured he was as energized for his final putt on Sunday as he was for his first drive on Thursday.

To access the program Scottie uses to stay at the top of the world rankings and coaching from Van Biezen and other world-class experts, visit GolfForever.com. By purchasing the training system or downloading the app, you’ll receive personalized routines, including Scheffler’s own workouts, that are tailored to your body and game.
