Hole more putts in Hemp

While most shirts seen out on the golf course these days are made from man-made fibres such as polyester and elastane, there is a growing trend for apparel that makes more use of renewable, organic materials that do away with the need for harsh chemical treatments for their manufacture.

While cotton has long been popular with golfers due to its smart appearance, there is a new kid on the block when it comes to organic materials in the form of hemp. Using five times less water than cotton to grow, and producing three times as much fibre as an acre of flax (linen), hemp is the most sustainable natural fibre on earth.

London-based Babble & Hemp is one company that is leading from the front when it comes to using this adaptable and extremely practical plant for making stylish and comfortable shirts that look good on and off the golf course when the temperature rises. Its loosely tailored and finely milled Explorer shirts, which are available in four sizes and five eye-catching colours, provide the softness of silk and the comfort qualities of a less creasing linen, allowing the skin to breath and the wearer to stay cool when the heat is on.

The stylish long sleeve shirts, which are offered with a three-button or full-length button design and a structured collar, also boast exceptional environmental credentials, with hemp being organic and needing no pesticides or chemicals to grow, and being carbon neutral.

Offered in Lymington Pink, Samarkand Blue, Chatham Stripe, Oyster Grey and Portobello Ivory, in size S-XXL, and ideal for casual summer rounds, or when floating around the clubhouse, Babble & Hemp’s Explorer shirt has an RRP of £75.
