Rising star’s gritty wire-to-wire performance headlines a historic week celebrating Black women in professional golf

ATLANTA, GA — The Sapphire Golf Tour today announced that Georgia Oboh claimed the Atlanta crown at Château Élan Resort & Golf Club, closing out a two-round total of 143 (70-73) to secure her first victory on the tour. Oboh’s win capped a milestone week that brought together a field of talented Black women professionals, a spirited Pro-Am, and an energetic community of supporters across the greater Atlanta area.

Oboh set the tone with a sub-par 70 on Day 1, navigating momentum swings with calm shot selection and clutch putting before sealing the win with a poised 73 on the final day. Christian Smith finished runner-up after a blistering Day-2 69 to surge up the leaderboard, underscoring the growing depth and competitiveness of the Tour.

A journey defined by resilience

Born into a family that instilled discipline and belief, Oboh’s story is one of persistence—hours on the range, self-funded travel, and the determination to find a pathway in a sport where visibility and resources for Black women are too often limited. The Sapphire Golf Tour exists to change that trajectory—offering a platform to compete, earn, and prepare for the next levels of the game.

“This win is bigger than me,” said Georgia Oboh, champion of the Sapphire Golf Tour–Atlanta. “It’s for every girl who’s ever wondered if there’s a place for her in golf. There is. The atmosphere at Château Élan felt like family—competitive, classy, and unapologetically supportive. I’m proud of the way I fought through the highs and lows, and I’m even more excited about what’s ahead.”

A historic week at Château Élan

Across tournament week, Sapphire hosted a Charity Pro-Am, brought first-time spectators to championship women’s golf, and welcomed a 15-player professional field—another step toward building a pipeline from junior and collegiate golf into the professional ranks. Community partners, volunteers, and fans turned out to create a vibrant, welcoming stage for the players.

“What you saw in Atlanta is our blueprint—access, visibility, and excellence,” said Tariq DeLavallade, Tour Commissioner, Sapphire Golf Tour (and Executive Director of the United Golfers Association). “Georgia’s win is a proof point: when you build the right stage, our athletes deliver world-class golf. We’re here to create opportunities—paid playing days, media visibility, and a real ladder upward. This is how we grow the game and change the culture.”
