Ashleigh Buhai fired a final round 68 to win the South African Women’s Open by four shots at Steenberg Golf Club.

The 33-year-old South African had held a four-shot lead since the midway mark and maintained that advantage on the final day, rolling in six birdies to finish on 22 under par for the week to win her home Open for the fourth time, although the first time since 2018.

“It’s always important for me to try and play the SA Women’s Open when I can, unfortunately the scheduling didn’t work out in the last few years with it moving due to Covid, so my goal was to come in here and win this week,” said Buhai. “I tried to play it down, because it’s a lot of pressure and I knew it was going to be difficult, but now I’ve got it done I’m really happy. I’m sure there will be a celebratory brai tonight! We’ve got a few family and friends here, so it’s going to be nice to be able to share it with them.”

For the second week running, Spain’s Ana Pelaez Trivino finished second after producing a final round 68 to reach 18-under. Germany’s Chiara Noja finished a shot back in third after a closing 69, with Argentina’s Magdalena Simmermacher in fourth.
