Adrian Otaegui claimed his fourth DP World Tour title with a six-shot victory at the Andalucía Masters held at Valderrama in Spain.

The 29-year-old Spaniard went into the final round with a six-stroke cushion and never gave the chasing pack an opportunity to catch him, firing four birdies in a closing 68 at to finish on 19 under par, setting a new tournament record.

Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren finished alone in second after posting a final-round 68, while Australia’s Min Woo Lee was three shots further back in solo third, two ahead of local player Angel Hidalgo.

Speaking about his securing his first win in his native country, Otaegui said: “I’m very, very proud. To host my first win in Spain and in front of these crowds, on my favourite golf course, is just unbelievable. The week was perfect. I tried to play today as if I had no lead and just tried to beat the others. I tried to stay focused and play every single hole with the same intensity and that was the main goal today, and I managed to do that.”

Otaegui’s win won’t receive universal praise, however, as he was has played in three LIV Golf events this season, including the opening event at the Centurion Club. DP World Tour members who played on the Saudi-funded circuit without permission were banned from the Scottish Open and hit with individual fines of £100,000. However, following a hearing before Sport Resolutions (UK), the suspensions imposed on Otaegui, as well as Ian Poulter and Justin Harding were temporarily stayed, pending an appeals hearing which is scheduled for February.
