Novi, MI – 2THUMB putting grip ambassador, Matt Wallace is in the hunt as one of the final potential captain picks by Luke Donald for the 2025 European Ryder Cup team, hoping to achieve his debut in this year’s historic matches at Bethpage Black, September 23-28, 2025. The year-long qualification process comes to an end at the Betfred British Masters this week, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.
With no Ryder Cup points awarded at this week’s PGA Tour Championship in Atlanta – the final event of the FedEx Cup PlayOffs – there is just one remaining opportunity to earn points and guarantee a spot.
Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton have all secured their places in Donald’s 12-man team.
On the American side, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau earned their way by finishing in the top six in the points standings after the BMW Championship.
Wallace recently won the Omega European Masters, ending a six-year winless drought on the DP World Tour and is focused on the upcoming British Masters to solidify his position. He’s currently ranked 11th in the European Team Rankings. Wallace, who has six titles to his name across the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, believes he is in a “different position” to previous Ryder Cup bids, saying he’s matured and learned how to harness his fierce competitiveness.
“I am playing well at the right time,” said Wallace. “I feel like I can add a bit of spice to our team. The determination is there.”
Pointing to his putting as an area of his game that he has significantly improved over the 2025 season, he believes he is among the very best on the greens over the past few months.
Wallace uses 2THUMB’s Snug Tour 27 putting grip. He interlocks his fingers, so his palms are facing opposing each other, and as he grips the putter, he places his thumbs alongside one another. Known as the prayer grip, it allows Wallace’s shoulders to hang level, which promotes a pendulum putting motion. It also creates a triangle between his shoulders and hands, which makes it easier to rock back and forth.
“A change in mindset, approach and routine has really helped me get to a point where I am putting the best I have done,” he said.
2Thumb putting grips are approved by the USGA and R&A. They are an incredibly versatile grip that accommodates a variety of putting grip styles, from Conventional, Claw, Left hand low, Prayer etc.
