The Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) and Farmington Country Club proudly partnered together with renowned sculptor Malcolm DeMille to create a stunning perpetual trophy honoring Robbye King Unger, a trailblazer in women’s golf. The trophy was officially unveiled at the 3rd Women’s Open of Virginia, held at the prestigious Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville.
Crafted to celebrate excellence in women’s golf, the trophy features a dynamic bronze statue of Robbye King Unger, featuring her iconic follow-through pose, mounted atop a silhouette of the state of Virginia. The base is elegantly adorned with detailed American Dogwood flowers, the state’s official blossom, symbolizing Virginia’s natural beauty and heritage. A VSGA spokesperson stated, “The Robbye King Unger Trophy is a tribute to a remarkable figure in Virginia golf and a symbol of the excellence we continue to see in women’s competition.”
The trophy made its debut during this year’s tournament, which concluded on June 25, 2025. Kennedy Swedick emerged victorious, finishing at 3-over par and securing a four-stroke win. The team at Malcolm DeMille extends a heartfelt congratulations to Champion Kennedy Swedick on her outstanding performance. We also express our deep gratitude to the Virginia State Golf Association for entrusting us with the honor of creating a trophy that celebrates Robbye King Unger’s legacy and the spirit of excellence in women’s golf.
