2023 Zurich Classic fantasy golf picks, rankings, sleepers, advice: Back Billy Horschel and Sam Burns

The PGA Tour’s lone team event is set to get underway from TPC Louisiana on Thursday, April 20. Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay enter the 2023 Zurich Classic as the defending champions. The duo shot a tournament-record 29-under par over four rounds last year, and they’re both coming off top-five finishes at the RBC Heritage. That should make them a popular option for 2023 Zurich Classic fantasy picks. But with 80 teams set to compete at TPC Louisiana, players setting Zurich Classic 2023 fantasy lineups have some tough choices to make.

Should you invest in Schauffele and Cantlay, or should you look at another dynamic duo like Max Homa and Collin Morikawa? Would a tandem like Presidents Cup stars Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim put you in a better position to win with your 2023 Zurich Classic fantasy picks? Before setting your fantasy golf rankings or making any 2023 Zurich Classic picks, you need to see the fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from SportsLine golf expert Eric Cohen.

Cohen is an avid golf bettor who correctly predicted the pre-tournament outright winner of the 2023 Honda Classic (Chris Kirk +3500), 2022 Open Championship (Cameron Smith +2200), 2022 U.S. Open (Matt Fitzpatrick +2500), and 2022 Phoenix Open (Scottie Scheffler’s first career victory +2800).

He is a daily contributor to SportsLine’s YouTube Show “Early Edge in 5” and is a guest on “The Early Wedge” SportsLine’s YouTube golf show hosted by Jonathan Coachman. Anyone who has followed Cohen’s picks for those events is way up.

Now, Cohen has ranked his top golfers from the 2023 Zurich Classic field. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings and Zurich Classic picks at SportsLine.

2023 Zurich Classic fantasy golf picks

Now, Cohen has ranked his top pairings for the 2023 Zurich Classic, and the expert is strongly backing Billy Horschel and Sam Burns at 18-1. These two proved they have what it takes to compete as a team last year. In fact, Horschel and Burns secured a runner-up finish at the Zurich Classic in 2022.

Horschel has had tremendous success at TPC Louisiana throughout his career, winning the solo event in 2013 and teaming up with Scott Piercy to claim his second title in 2018. Horschel has seven career victories on the PGA Tour, and he’ll be confident he can add another this week at the Zurich Classic.

Meanwhile, Burns has finished T-15 or better in three of his last four starts, which includes a victory at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. He’s also racked up four top-10 finishes this season. Burns enters this week’s event among the best putters on the PGA Tour, ranking fifth in strokes gained: putting (.814), sixth in one-putt percentage (45.39%) and 13th in putts per round (28.05).

On the other hand, Cohen is slightly fading brother tandem Matthew Fitzpatrick and Alex Fitzpatrick, even though Matthew is coming off a win last week at the RBC Heritage. They’re priced among the favorites at 22-1, but Cohen barely has them cracking his top 10.

Fitzpatrick capitalized on a few solid breaks during a playoff with Jordan Spieth in Hilton Head and won on the third playoff hole by hitting his approach to just over a foot. However, his brother is ranked 706th in the world and this will be his first PGA Tour event since the Valspar Championship last spring. You can see who else to back this week at SportsLine.
