Scheffler has the all-around game and even-keeled demeanor to thrive in match play. The 26-year-old also has been on a major roll for the past year. He has six wins since February 2022, with his 2022 Match Play victory the third in that span – and third of his career. He won the Masters two weeks later. He is second on tour in scoring average and strokes gained total.
On the other hand, Holliman is steering clear of McIlroy, barely ranking the recent world No. 1 in his top 10. McIlroy is in the midst of an equipment change brought on by recent struggles. He won the CJ Cup in October and went on to excel in Europe. But he has had major issues since his return, finishing outside the top 25 in three of his past four outings. The Northern Irishman ranks 173rd in strokes gained putting and 168th in driving accuracy, both critical areas to succeed in Austin.
