2023 RBC Canadian Open Fantasy golf rankings, picks, advice: Back Tyrrell Hatton, fade Cameron Young

It’s the week before a major, so a slightly weakened PGA Tour field will be teeing off at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open on Thursday in Toronto. That means opportunity for players making 2023 RBC Canadian Open fantasy golf picks. Rory McIlroy leads a field featuring 10 of the world’s top 30 players, but there should be some gems to unearth for RBC Canadian Open 2023 fantasy golf picks. The U.S. Open is next week, but reigning champion Matt Fitzpatrick is at Oakdale Golf and Country Club this week. Sam Burns, Tyrrell Hatton and Cameron Young also are scheduled to compete. But players like Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Justin Rose could also be threats on a course that is expected to yield plenty of birdies.

McIlroy is the two-time defending champion and is the 9-2 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest 2023 RBC Canadian Open odds. Can Rose (18-1), whose only victory in the past four years came at Pebble Beach in February, continue his resurgence and be a valuable piece for your 2023 RBC Canadian Open fantasy golf lineups? Or could it be time for Fleetwood (20-1) to get his first tour victory? Before locking in any 2023 RBC Canadian Open fantasy golf picks or PGA Tour bets, make sure you check out the RBC Canadian fantasy golf rankings from fantasy expert Jim Holliman.

Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players’ games fit the courses.

At last week’s Memorial Tournament, more than half of Holliman’s picks finished in the top 20, and so did 65-1 longshot Adam Scott. At the Charles Schwab, six of his top 10 picks finished 16th or better. The expert was on fire on his predictions for the PGA Championship, with the top three finishers at Oak Hill all among his top five picks. As for winner Brooks Koepka, Holliman said “he can beat anyone when stakes are high.” He certainly proved that when he won by two strokes for his fifth major victory.

Holliman has been on a serious roll: He was all over Jason Day (+1800) as a top contender at the Byron Nelson and nailed Tony Finau (+850) as his top choice at the Mexico Open. The expert also had Jon Rahm (+750) No. 1 before his Masters victory and backed Scottie Scheffler (+1000) to win the Players Championship. Anyone who has followed Holliman’s predictions is way up on their golf picks.

Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers for the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, and you’ll really want to see what he has to say. Holliman’s picks are only available at SportsLine.

2023 RBC Canadian Open expert golf picks

Holliman knows Hatton has been on a strong run, and he is backing the Englishman to break through. The 31-year-old has five straight top-20 finishes, and Holliman says “his second tour victory could be on tap here.” Hatton has seven worldwide victories, the most recent in 2021, but he has five top-10 finishes this season. He also ranks fourth in scoring average and is in the top 20 in every strokes gained category except around the green. He is 59th in that metric, better than most golfers in this field. His strong all-around play will make him a contender at Oakdale.

On the flip side, Young has had issues in several parts of his game, so Holliman is fading the 14-1 co-third favorite this week. The 26-year-old missed the cut in a second straight tournament last week at Muirfield. He tied for 51st and 59th the two weeks before that, so Young has clearly been off his game. And that game relies on power, which isn’t going to benefit him too much this week at Oakdale. Young ranks 16th in strokes gained off the tee and 30th on approach, but is 82nd in scoring average. That’s because he ranks 141st around the green and 184th putting. See who else he is backing at SportsLine.

How to set your 2023 RBC Canadian Open golf rankings

For this week’s RBC Canadian Open, Holliman is backing several underdogs, including one massive longshot who comes in at well over 150-1. The expert says this golfer has been racking up top-25 finishes and “his accuracy will benefit him here.” See who it is, and get all Holliman’s picks, at SportsLine.
