2023 Honda Classic fantasy golf rankings, picks, sleepers, lineups: Back Sungjae Im, fade Shane Lowry

The PGA Tour heads east this week without some of its best players, but the 2023 Honda Classic is an opportunity for overlooked golfers and bettors alike. Six of the past 10 winners have been priced at 80-1 or longer in the odds, so players making 2023 Honda Classic fantasy golf picks can find some diamonds in the rough. Sungjae Im, Billy Horschel and Shane Lowry are the field’s headliners and will anchor many Honda Classic 2023 fantasy golf lineups. But Sepp Straka was a first-time winner in 2022 at PGA National, and there are other gems to be unearthed who could do the same this year. So, which long shots should you target for your 2023 Honda Classic fantasy golf picks.

Im (17-2) and Lowry (14-1) are the favorites at Caesars Sportsbook, but are they no-brainers to anchor your Honda Classic fantasy golf lineups? Is Horschel (30-1), a seven-time winner on tour, a threat to get an eighth and help you cash in with your Honda Classic fantasy picks? Before you lock in your 2023 Honda Classic fantasy golf picks or PGA Tour bets, you need to see the fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from SportsLine fantasy expert Jim Holliman.

Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players’ games fit the courses. The golf expert has been on a roll on his picks since last season. He nailed last week’s Genesis Invitational, backing Jon Rahm after doubting him in previous weeks, and five of his top 12 picks finished in the top six. At the Phoenix Open, four of the expert’s top eight finished in the top 10, a group that included winner Scottie Scheffler.

Last season, Holliman also was on target at the Tour Championship. He said Rory McIlroy was the only player capable of making up a six-stroke deficit to get past Scottie Scheffler before his huge rally for the victory. Holliman also was behind Will Zalatoris (28-1) at the St. Jude and was on the money at the Wyndham Championship, with Tom Kim (35-1) among his selections. Anyone who has followed Holliman’s predictions is way up on their golf picks.

Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers from the 2023 Honda Classic field. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings and Honda Classic picks at SportsLine.

Holliman is strongly behind Im this week, and he expects the 24-year-old to bounce back from a T-56 finish last week. “He’s clearly the best player in this field and is due for a victory” the expert says. Im stumbled on the weekend at the Genesis but finished in the top six in his previous two events. He has two PGA Tour victories, and his all-around skill is a perfect match for a tough course like PGA National. That’s why he followed his 2020 victory with a T-8 in 2021. He missed the cut last year but is back in top form. The South Korean ranks 18th on tour in scoring average.

On the other hand, Lowry has been struggling lately, and Holliman is fading the Irishman this week. The 35-year-old’s putting has been poor, as he ranks 186th in strokes gained on the greens. He also is 108th in proximity to the hole, so that putter will have to catch fire for him to contend. Lowry has missed three cuts in his past eight tournaments worldwide and has two top-25 finishes over that span. His T-14 last week was his best finish of the season, but Holliman knows Lowry’s runner-up last year was his first Honda finish in the top 20 in five tries. You can see who else to back this week at SportsLine.

How to set your 2023 Honda Classic golf rankings

For the Honda Classic 2023, Holliman is backing several longshots, including one who comes in well over 60-1. This golfer always keeps the ball in play, and the expert says “this could be the perfect spot for him.” You can find out who it is, and check out all of Holliman’s PGA picks, only at SportsLine.

Who wins the 2023 Honda Classic? Who are the top PGA Tour players to target for your Honda Classic fantasy picks? And which overlooked players can help you win your league this week?
