2023 Honda Classic fantasy golf rankings, picks, lineups, sleepers: Back Sungjae Im, fade Shane Lowry

It’s break time for many of the world’s top PGA Tour golfers, but the show goes on at this week’s 2023 Honda Classic at PGA National. Players setting their 2023 Honda Classic fantasy lineups will have a lot of long shots to choose from. Only three of the world’s top 20 players are set to compete – Sungjae Im, Billy Horschel and Shane Lowry. Six of the past 10 winners have been at least 80-1 in the golf odds, so Honda Classic fantasy players will have to work hard to find the value. Im is the 17-2 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest Honda Classic 2023 odds, followed by Shane Lowry.

Im and Lowry (14-1) both have two PGA Tour victories, so are they obvious choices for your 2023 Honda Classic fantasy golf picks? Or would a player hungry for a first victory like Denny McCarthy (28-1) or Taylor Pendrith (35-1) give you a better chance to win? Before you lock in your 2023 Honda Classic fantasy golf picks or PGA Tour bets, you need to see the fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from SportsLine fantasy expert Jim Holliman.

Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players’ games fit the courses. The golf expert has been on a roll on his picks since last season. He nailed last week’s Genesis Invitational, backing Jon Rahm after doubting him in previous weeks, and five of his top 12 picks finished in the top six. At the Phoenix Open, four of the expert’s top eight finished in the top 10, a group that included winner Scottie Scheffler.

Last season, Holliman also was on target at the Tour Championship. He said Rory McIlroy was the only player capable of making up a six-stroke deficit to get past Scottie Scheffler before his huge rally for the victory. Holliman also was behind Will Zalatoris (28-1) at the St. Jude and was on the money at the Wyndham Championship, with Tom Kim (35-1) among his selections. Anyone who has followed Holliman’s predictions is way up on their golf picks.

Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers from the 2023 Honda Classic field. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings and Honda Classic picks at SportsLine.

One player Holliman isn’t hesitating to back this week is Im, and not just because he is the highest-ranked player in this field. The 24-year-old has a well-rounded game that will play well anywhere and should be especially effective on a tough course like PGA National. The South Korean ranks in the top 60 in every strokes gained category and is 24th in scoring average (68.82). Im finished in the top six in consecutive tournaments before a 74-73 weekend derailed him at the Genesis. Holliman believes he will bounce back and dominate against this field.

Meanwhile, the expert is fading Lowry, even though he is the 2019 Open champion and one of the clear favorites. The Irishman has been inconsistent and has been struggling to hit greens. He ranks 149th in greens in regulation at less than 67%. Lowry also is 146th in strokes gained around the green and 186th putting. The 35-year-old won on the European tour six months ago, so he can still get it done if he gets hot, but a T-14 last week was his best finish so far this season. He also never finished in the top 20 at PGA National before his runner-up finish last year. You can see who else to back this week at SportsLine.

How to set your 2023 Honda Classic golf rankings

For the Honda Classic 2023, Holliman is backing several longshots, including one who comes in well over 60-1. This golfer always keeps the ball in play, and the expert says “this could be the perfect spot for him.” You can find out who it is, and check out all of Holliman’s PGA picks, only at SportsLine.

Who wins the 2023 Honda Classic? Who are the top PGA Tour players to target for your Honda Classic fantasy picks? And which overlooked players can help you win your league this week?
