2023 AT&T Byron Nelson fantasy golf rankings, picks, advice: Back Tyrrell Hatton, fade Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler is the headliner, but a trio of resurgent veterans also will draw plenty of attention at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson. The tournament tees off Thursday in McKinley, Texas, and world No. 2 Scheffler is one of three top-20 players in the AT&T Byron Nelson 2023 field. He also will be a popular (and pricey) option for 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson Fantasy lineups. Former world No. 1’s Jason Day and Adam Scott have both won the Byron Nelson and come in playing better than they have in years. Matt Kuchar, 44, also fits that bill, and all three should be considered by most players who make 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson fantasy picks.

K.H. Lee has dominated in winning both years the Byron Nelson has been played at TPC Craig Ranch. He comes off his first top-10 finish since early January and is the co-third favorite at +1800, along with Day. Scheffler is the +450 top choice, followed by Tyrrell Hatton (+1400) in the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Before setting your fantasy golf rankings or making any 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson picks, you need to see the fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from SportsLine fantasy expert Jim Holliman.

Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players’ games fit the courses. Holliman has been on a roll since last season. He nailed the 2023 Masters, backing Rahm as his top choice, despite his uninspired run at Match Play. “The Spaniard wants a green jacket badly. Who doesn’t?,” Holliman said. “But Rahm will get it at some point, and I expect it to be this year.” The Spaniard showed how much he wanted it, storming to a four-shot victory and his second major title.

At the Players Championship, he was all over Scheffler to win at 10-1, and at Bay Hill, 11 of his picks finished in the top 15 and three of his top seven posted top-five finishes. The golf expert also was behind Chris Kirk at the Honda, backing the 25-1 shot to get his first victory since 2015. Anyone who has followed Holliman’s predictions is way up on their golf picks.

Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers from the 2023 AT&T Bryon Nelson field. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings and AT&T Byron Nelson picks at SportsLine.

Holliman loved what he saw from Hatton last week and will be backing the Englishman at TPC Craig Ranch. Putting will play a key role in the outcome, and Hatton is 27th on tour in strokes gained on the greens. But Holliman points out that the 31-year-old “has one of the most well-rounded games in the field.” Hatton is 11th in both total driving and greens in regulation and seventh in strokes gained total. That’s why he is 26th in scoring average (69.68). He tied for third at Quail Hollow last week after sharing the lead entering the weekend. It was his fourth top-10 finish.

On the other hand, the prices on Scheffler will just be too prohibitive, so Holliman is slightly fading him. Scheffler also hasn’t been great at TPC Craig Ranch so far, tying for 47th in 2021 and 15th last year. He hasn’t finished outside the top 12 since October but was on the edge of the top 10 in his past two outings. He finished T-10 at the Masters and T-11 at the RBC Heritage. The 26-year-old has had three weeks off, and that time was surely spent gearing up for next week’s PGA Championship. Scheffler could definitely win, but Holliman will look elsewhere for value. You can see who else to back this week at SportsLine.

How to set your 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson golf rankings

For the AT&T Byron Nelson 2023, Holliman is backing several longshots, with three players in his top 10 priced well over 30-1. He’s also high on a golfer who comes in at more than 80-1 who has the off-the-tee and putting skills to pull off a stunner. You can find out who it is, and check out all of Holliman’s PGA picks, only at SportsLine.
