2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational fantasy golf rankings, picks: Back Scottie Scheffler, fade Rory McIlroy

We’re back to another loaded PGA Tour field this week at the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, meaning a lot of elite options for your fantasy golf lineups. World No. 1 Jon Rahm, defending champion Scottie Scheffler and reigning FedEx Cup champion Rory McIlroy are all set to tee off Thursday, and they will be popular 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational fantasy picks. But a deep field that includes 23 of the world’s top 25 golfers means plenty of quality options. Max Homa is among four players priced shorter than 20-1 – behind Rahm (7-1), McIlroy (19-2) and Scheffler (11-1) – in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest Arnold Palmer Invitational 2023 odds.

Homa has two victories this season, the same as Rahm and one more than Scheffler and McIlroy. Does that make him a valuable play for your 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational fantasy golf picks? Could a player like Patrick Cantlay (28-1) or even Jordan Spieth (41-1) pull off a surprise and set you up to win? Before you lock in your 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational fantasy golf picks or PGA Tour bets, you need to see the fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from SportsLine fantasy expert Jim Holliman.

Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players’ games fit the courses. The golf expert has been on a roll on his picks since last season. He was behind Chris Kirk last week, backing the 25-1 longshot to get his first victory since 2015. “He doesn’t have a tour victory in almost eight years,” Holliman said, “but this is a field where he could fix that.” The 37-year-old went out and shot 14 under, then beat Eric Cole in a playoff for his fifth PGA Tour victory.

Holliman also crushed the Genesis Invitational, backing Rahm after doubting him in previous weeks, and five of his top 12 picks finished in the top six. At the Phoenix Open, four of the expert’s top eight finished in the top 10, a group that included the winner, Scheffler.

Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers from the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational field. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings and Arnold Palmer Invitational picks at SportsLine.

One player Holliman is fully behind is Scheffler, the reigning Masters champion who is hungry to regain his top ranking. Scheffler has three victories since winning at Bay Hill last year, including the Phoenix Open three weeks ago. The 26-year-old is 70-under par over his last four events, finishing no worse than 12th during that span. His strong all-around game is a perfect fit for the challenges of Bay Hill, as he ranks third in total driving, seventh in strokes gained total and 14th in SG approach. Scheffler also is second in greens in regulation and seventh in scrambling.

On the other hand, McIlroy’s game has been missing something lately and Holliman is fading the Northern Irishman. McIlroy has finished T-32 and T-29 in his past two tournaments and ranks 171st in strokes gained putting. He has looked frustrated at times and could be even more so by the time the weekend is over. He is 189th in driving accuracy so far, so he could find a lot of trouble this week. The 33-year-old has a strong history at Bay Hill, with five top-10’s in his past six outings there, but Holliman knows he has some things to fix before he can contend. You can see who else to back this week at SportsLine.

How to set your 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational golf rankings

For the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2023, Holliman is backing several longshots, including two players in his top 10 who are priced at almost 30-1. One of these golfers tends to be overlooked in these stacked fields, but he has a winning pedigree and the well-rounded game to succeed on tough courses. You can find out who it is, and check out all of Holliman’s PGA picks, only at SportsLine.

Who wins the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational? Who are the top PGA Tour players to target for your Arnold Palmer Invitational fantasy picks?
